Therefore, it seems only fitting that our 2012 Lifetime Achievement Recipient of the pageant is a woman who exemplifies the characteristics that the MCA honors, recognizes and embodies!

Three words can be used to describe our 2012 Lifetime Achievement Recipient: Inspiration, Motivation and Dedication! Kellie Lightbourn represents everything it means to be wear the crown of Ms./Mrs. Corporate America. In fact, Kellie was crowned Mrs. Galaxy International 2011! She is the ultimate combination of Business and Beauty! We are honored to have Kellie representing the Ms./ Mrs. Corporate America Pageant as our 2012 Lifetime Achievement Recipient!

As MCA's 2012 Lifetime Achievement Recipient, Kellie will be the face of MCA and will be responsible for empowering professional women across America to pursue greatness in their various career pursuits. Inspiration

Kellie Lightbourn is a well-known television personality, attorney, and sought after motivational speaker. Though, arguably Kellie's most impressive accomplishment comes by way of her humanitarian endeavors. As one of the original founders of the National Humane Society, Kellie has continued to focus on helping our community. In fact, she was instrumental in launching a new national motivational program called The Teen Edge.

Motivation

Kellie exemplifies today’s modern day woman... Happily married for over 10 years, Kellie and her husband Nick are living the American dream with twins, Landyn and Nicholas. Like many women today, Kellie has learned to successfully balance her role as a wife and mother with her need to contribute to the world. Today, she is a full-time mom and part-time TV personality.

Dedication

With a Juris Doctorate and Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Kellie started her career as an attorney. Today, she continues to influence lives as the Host of ABC's Consumer Update. Ultimately, she landed a position with ABC Action News as their Legal Anchor. Kellie has been featured on National Shows like E! Entertainment, EXTRA, Designing Spaces and Maury. Today, she continues to influence lives as the Host of ABC's Consumer.

Showcasing and celebrating the combination of brains and beauty

As women we wear many different hats…..we are mothers, daughters, wives, corporate executives, business owners, entrepreneurs and more! One of the things most women struggle with in this process is creating the right balance in our lives. Many days it feels like there just are not enough hours in the day to get everything done! But, somehow, we manage to get it all done and more!

One hat that many women don’t usually consider wearing in their lives is a crown! A sparkling, diamond encrusted crown worthy of a princess or queen! Although we most certainly have earned the right to wear this crown, it just doesn’t seem to fit into our hectic schedules between taking the kids to soccer practice, running our own businesses, attending corporate meetings, volunteering at our children’s schools, and making dinner for the family.

This is where the Ms./Mrs. Corporate America Pageant (MCA) comes into play. The MCA Pageant provides women across the country with a unique opportunity to showcase not only their beauty, but their brains.

MCA is the first pageantry system focused on and dedicated to empowering professional women and giving them a platform and a voice to be heard. Founded in 2007 by Anissa King, the MCA Pageant’s mission is to provide a platform that highlights a woman’s professional achievements and accomplishments both in the community and in the workplace. MCA offers a rich experience that many women may have dreamed about but never thought possible for themselves.

The MCA Pageant is all about empowering women to share their stories and to encourage and inspire others in the process. This year, the MCA Pageant will be celebrating its 5^th year March 9 – 10, 2012 at the Radisson Hotel in Orlando, FL. It will be a time to celebrate the unique combination of business and beauty that professional American women exemplify!

The United States Army's Junior Reserve Officer's Training Corps of JROTC is designed to teach high school students the value of Leadership and Citizenship. Instilled in these values are service to the community, personal responsibility and accountability, and a sense of accomplishment, while instilling positive self-esteem, teamwork, and self-discipline. The focus is reflected in the JROTC mission statement, "To motivate young people to be better citizens," says Nguyen. They prepare high school students for responsible leadership roles while making them aware of their rights, responsibilities, and privileges as American citizens. The JROTC program is a stimulus for promoting graduation from high school, and it provides instruction and rewarding opportunities that will benefit the student, the community, and this great nation.

The North Carolina Governor’s Conference for Women is a powerful annual convening of more than 1,500 women from across the state for energizing dialogue on a variety of women's issues. Launched in 2006 (then as the North Carolina Conference for Women), this day-long experience includes a mix of dynamic speakers, entertainment, and an interactive expo for networking, information sharing, and education.
Our mission is to provide a platform for women of all ages and backgrounds across North Carolina to network with peers and become informed on timely issues that are of value to today’s women.

Welcoming WWII Veterans at Flight of Honor

Ms. Corporate America 2011, Nancy Nguyen, participates in welcoming WWII Veterans at the last Flight of Honor for 2011 at Raleigh Durham International Airport. A Coast Guard Commander and Naval Cadets escort Ms. Corporate America to the ceremony in a black Escalade to greet veteran friends and families at Flight of Honor.

The Triangle Flight of Honor Tour Information

The Triangle Flight of Honor is a program that flies veterans to Washington D.C. to tour the WWII memorials constructed in honor of their service.

The flight, tour, and meals are provided at no cost to the veterans.
A typical flight departs RDU Airport at 8:00 a.m. and returns at 8:00 p.m.

We have completed 5 Flights as of May 4, 2011. We have 2 Flights scheduled this fall: September 14, 2011 and October 26, 2011!

12:00 PM - Depart WW II Memorial on motor coaches for a tour of other sites
(Each tour is slightly different but will include many of the following: Korean Veterans Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial, Air Force Memorial, Arlington Cemetary, Dulles Air and Space Museum)
7:00 PM – Departure of charter flight to RDU Airport – light dinner served in flight
8:00 PM – Scheduled arrival of Triangle Flight of Honor at RDU
There are two events that happen at RDU that family, friends and the general public would enjoy. The location is the same for both events:
After leaving the gate at approximately 8:00 am, the plane will taxi toward the runway and go through a water cannon salute provided by the RDU Fire Department. The “water arch” is symbolic and quite an emotional experience!
Then, in the evening, the plane will arrive back at RDU at approximately 8:00 pm. There is a ”Heroes Welcome” celebration in the center atrium of the parking garage. After each flight we have over 2,000 people on several levels of the garage welcoming their heroes home!

RALEIGH, N.C. --

Nancy McFarlane will succeed Charles Meeker as mayor in what Meeker called "a great victory for the City of Raleigh."

McFarlane took 61.1 percent of the votes. Her closest challenger, Billie Jean Redmond, conceded with just 29.57 percent of the votes.

"It's humbling, for sure, to know that many people came out to support you," McFarlane said shortly after she learned Redmond had conceded.

She added, "But it's not me, it's the direction that Raleigh is going that people are really happy with."

Meeker served as mayor for 10 years but decided not to run for re-election. Under his watch, the city saw the revitalization of Fayetteville Street and the additions of an amphitheater and convention center in downtown.

"There will be new projects in terms of apartment projects, and probably less in terms of new development downtown with public money," Meeker said after McFarlane's win. "It really is time for private development to take over down here."

McFarlane says her task will now be to unite the sprawling city.

"I really feel that we are a city of many different neighborhoods, characteristics, needs and wants, but embracing all of those differences is what makes us one big city," McFarlane, who lives in North Raleigh, pointed out.

"I want us to really feel like one city -- not inside or outside the Beltline."

McFarlane is the city's second female mayor. Isabella Cannon served one term as mayor until 1979.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month | Ms. Corporate America 2011 Uses Her Business to Help a Family

Angel Crnalic lost a fight with cancer on September 29, 2011 at the age of 32. In her honor, Ms. Corporate America 2011 and her Sweet T Salon team will donate a portion of all pink Sweet T Tee’s sold ($24.95).

There will be a donation bin for anyone who wishes to only make a donation. All donations will be given to her mother and husband to help with her memorial. She was a beautiful, funny, and refreshing person. Please “Take a Tee for Angel” this October 2011.

ArtReach 4 Kids focuses on helping OUR YOUTH! Art programs are losing funding and when there is a decrease in strong Art Programs in schools there is an increase in the developmental gap and children can get left behind. Professional Artists and Educators bring visual learning curriculum to children of families who may not have the means to provide these enrichment experiences to give them a more level playing field.

Ms. Corporate America 2011, Nancy Nguyen, connected with over 20 women entrepreneurs to launch her business' 1st Red Carpet Charity Event. Sweet T Salon stylists styled over a dozen models to show off jewelry from Stella and Dot. Pronto Pasta, a family-owned business provided the food.

The Red Carpet Charity Event donated over $200 to local and civic organizations and schools for art educators and art supplies within ArtReach 4 Kids.

Ms. Corporate America 2011, Nancy Nguyen was a recipient of an ArtReach 4 Kids scholarship to attend Artspace in the 3rd grade. "Now, it's time to give back in an artistic way," says Nguyen.

National Summit of Vietnamese American Leaders in Washington, DC

Ms. Corporate America 2011, Nancy Nguyen, served as a member of Track 2 (Corporate Leadership, Entrepreneurship and Economic Development) Steering Committee for the first National Summit of Vietnamese American Leaders in Washington, DC. Hundreds of delegates came from all around the country, representing various fields of expertise.

The full-day work agenda featured a combination of keynote addresses, plenary panels, inspirational break-out seminars, and in-depth issue and strategy discussions. At the Summit, thought leaders shared best practices in the areas of accessing capital, building capacity and establishing a structure of business support.

Keynote speaker Frances Hesselbein

Frances Hesselbein is the President and CEO of the Leader to Leader Institute (formerly the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management) and its Founding President. Mrs. Hesselbein was the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States of America’s highest civilian honor by President Clinton, in 1998. The award recognized her leadership as CEO of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. from 1976-1990, her role as the Founding President of the Drucker Foundation, and her service as “a pioneer for women, volunteerism, diversity and opportunity.” Her contributions were also recognized by the first President Bush, who appointed her to two Presidential Commissions on National and Community Service. In 2009 she was appointed as the Class of 1951 Chair for the Study of Leadership at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. She is not only the first woman appointee; she is also the first non-graduate of West Point to hold the position of Chair for the Study of Leadership. Her latest book “My Life in Leadership” has won many praises from prominent thought leaders.

The Southernmost Point

The larger than life concrete buoy marks the Southernmost Point in the continental United States, only 90 miles from Cuba. Located at the corner of South St. and Whitehead St. it's the backdrop for a Kodak moment for virtually every traveler to Key West.

Key West is erected the now famous monument in 1983 and it is one of the most visited and photographed attractions in Key West.

Southernmost Point is crowded most of the day, beat the lines and go early in the morning to get the wonderful colors of sunrise.

From here it's a short walk to the Hemingway House, the Lighthouse Museum, Fort Zachary Taylor Park and other Key West attractions.

Since the launch of Ms. Corporate America's Sweet T Salon, Nancy has been working hard to brand her business. She organized the salon's first Tea Etiquette Party for men and women in the community. Guests enjoyed an afternoon of tea, courtesy of The Unique Boutique of Special Teas.

"The Tea Etiquette Party is a way to bring members of the community together in a relaxing afternoon for desserts, and etiquette class, and networking. It's also a great learning experience for those who have never been to a tea etiquette party," says Nancy.

The goal is to have a monthly tea etiquette party with diverse group each month at Sweet T Salon. The parties help brand Ms. Corporate America's new business as well as bring strangers together in a positive and fun environment.

Ms. Corporate America 201, Nancy Nguyen, is the current and founding president of the Triangle Alumni Colony for Alpha Kappa Psi. ΑΚΨ (Alpha Kappa Psi) is the oldest and largest profession business fraternity. The Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity was founded on October 5, 1904 at New York University and was incorporated on May 20, 1905. It is currently headquartered in Indianapolis, IN.

She recently made a surprise visit at Tau Chi's May 2011 spring formal held on a dinner cruise on Lake Michigan.

The Launch of Ms. Corporate America 2011's New Business | Sweet T Salon

Ms. Corporate America's Sweet T Salon kicked off its Grand Re-Opening on May 8, 2011 with a flash, causing a cosmetic eruption that promised to shake up the Raleigh fashion scene for years to come. There was so much food on hand that guests stuffed their pockets and purses with whatever leftovers they could carry. Customers and honored guests guzzled gallons of iced tea and danced ballroom-style until their feet blistered. But even sore feet couldn’t wipe the delighted smiles off the faces of these partygoers.

The event was the culmination of what has been a labor of passion for Ms. Corporate America 2011, Nancy Nguyen, who last year returned from Chicago to her native Raleigh, her sights set on creating a hub of hair expertise and southern hospitality deep in the heart of the city. Sweet T Salon stands where the former Classy Cuts Salon—owned by Nancy’s mother, Amy—stood for over a decade. The new salon will fuse the family atmosphere exuded by Classy Cuts with hip new styles and a shabby chic décor.

Sweet T will also dedicate itself to enriching the community it serves by partnering with local companies and advocating volunteer service; several owners of local businesses were on hand for the opening. After a brief speech by Nancy in which she thanked attendees, Ms. Black North Carolina sliced the ceremonial ribbon with a 10-inch pair of shiny silver shears—and the dream was a reality! She promises to always bring that same passion and enthusiasm for serving customers every day, as her team moves forward in their mission of building relationships, one client at a time!
